A Sultry Look For A Night Out With Burt’s Bees

This season’s New York Fashion Week did not disappoint. Designers served us with a bunch of hot new trends and powerful statement looks. That’s why I was so excited to partner with Burt’s Bees to create a look inspired by my favorite runway beauty moments.

As I watched from afar taking notes, I suddenly felt inspired to switch things up a little. While we may have to wait months to get our hands on those new split trousers or those beautiful sheer pieces we saw sashaying down the runways, we can still use makeup to play with new trends and to find what feels true to us.

I love using makeup to accentuate the features I like the most. That’s why I usually wear a bold red lip. The beauty of makeup though, unlike let’s say a haircut, is that you can try out a new look or trend and change things up without having to make any drastic decisions. To me, real confidence is feeling free to try something different so today’s makeup look is the very opposite of what you guys are typically used to seeing me in. I’m ditching my subtle brown eyeliner, bare lid and flaming matte red lipstick to create my version of a sultry look I loved from one of this year’s NYFW shows: a nude lip paired with a reflective eye made from blended gold tones and deep browns.

I had so much fun wearing this look for a night out in New York City and it reminded that no matter what, makeup is meant to be fun, expressive and enhance what we’ve already got going on.

Here’s what I used to create my new look.

FOUNDATION

Thankfully I’m still rocking my summer glow so my foundation choice is a little darker than what I would use during the winter months. I find that the color of foundation can shift slightly as it sets, so when looking for the perfect match, I tested colors on my face and waited 10-15 minutes before making any decisions. For this look, I used the Goodness Glows Liquid Makeup in Pecan. When applying, I like to take my time pressing the foundation into my skin using a damp beauty sponge. I’ll go over the areas that need more coverage one or two more times. Using this technique to build and layer your foundation helps to provide even coverage without losing the natural textured appearance of your skin. What I liked about this foundation was that it not only provided great coverage, but it’s also made with Meadowfoam Seed Oil, which can help keep the skin hydrated.

EYESHADOW

I don’t know about you guys, but I find eye shadows somewhat intimidating, which is why I love Burt’s Bees’ Eye Shadow Palette Trios. They make combining eye shadow foolproof. I easily mixed my favorite shades from both the Eye Shadow Palette Trios in Dusky Woods and Blooming Desert.

I swept the darkest shade from the Eye Shadow Palette Trio in Blooming Desert over my entire lid and then I tapped the darker shade from Dusky Woods very subtly into my eyelid crease, from the outside of my eye in towards the halfway point. I followed that by applying the middle shade from the Eye Shadow Palette Trio in Dusky Woods to the inner portion of my lid tapping and blending inward toward the halfway point of my eye. Lastly, I used the darkest shade from that Palette Trio and applied it under my lower eyelash line. I found that these eye shadow colors complimented each other well, even the ones from different palettes. The shades are buildable, so I deepened the pigment simply by layering.

EYELINER

The Nourishing Eyeliner Pencil in Soft Black is one of my favorite products from the brand. The soft black is a beautiful hue and once you get the pencil warmed up, it rolls on smoothly. I like to make small, light strokes, delicately lining my lash line first, this way I can easily erase any mistakes. Once I have a light trace, I’ll go back in with full pressure and follow through creating the final line.

BLUSH

For blush, I used the All Aglow Lip & Cheek Stick in Dahlia Dew. The consistency felt great and it was just the right amount of color. The Jojoba Seed Oil, Sunflower Seed Oil and Coconut Oil make it moisturizing and not sticky or tacky like some of the other blush sticks I’ve tried. I applied it with my fingers and used the stick straight onto my cheeks, as well. Then, I blended it with a brush to create an even, healthy glow.

HIGHLIGHTER

I added some shimmer by using the All Aglow Bronzer & Highlighter Stick in Bronze Splash. It added the perfect amount of glow and immediately brightened my entire face. I swept some over my cheekbone and dabbed some in the inner corners of my eye.

LIQUID LIPSTICK

This was a tough one for me because I’m so used to wearing my usual red hues in rotation. Also, it took me quite a while to settle on a choice because Burt’s Bees’ Liquid Lipstick comes in 18 beautiful shades (6 of which are on-trend, gilded shades exclusive to CVS Pharmacy). The texture is super lush and velvety. They glide on smoothly and keep your lips hydrated. I ended up going with the Liquid Lipstick in Sandy Seas.
