Using an excellent face moisturizer is always an essential step in your day and night skincare routine but as soon as the temperatures drop and the weather conditions worsen, using the right moisturizer can save your skin. “In general, richer creams, and by richer, I mean richer in terms of their oil concentrations, are the best for the skin [during the winter months.]” shared, James Vivian of James Vivian Dermal Therapies. But, he also points out that we still need to be conscious of our skin type when picking a more hydrating face cream, lotion or oil. The most important tip to getting the most out of your moisturizer is picking the right product for your skin needs. What provides the right amount of hydration for someone with oily skin will probably not lock in enough moisture for someone with dry or dehydrated skin. Another tip is to apply your moisturizer immediately after cleansing when skin is still slightly damp. This helps to lock in the moisture and ensures your skin absorbs product well. Other tips include layering your products in the right order, remember thinnest to thickest, and one of the most important tips is to always wear a broad spectrum sunscreen, even in the winter time!
