This $10 Konjac Sponge Is A Game Changer—You Need This!

Let’s keep it real, we all want glowy, smooth skin, but do we always want to crack the bank open on one single beauty item? I think not! While there is real value in investing in luxury skincare products, there are also some inexpensive gems out there. My number one inexpensive beauty pick is a $10 face sponge you can easily purchase on Amazon. I’ve been obsessed with this sponge for years and I’m pretty sure if you try one out, you’ll immediately be hooked too.

The Konjac Sponge

100% natural, effective and pocket-friendly, the konjac sponge is a natural cleanser and exfoliator for the face. Made from the konnyaku root, this sponge is widely used in Korea, Japan and China and was originally created to wash babies’ delicate skin.

What Does A Konjac Sponge Do?

These small but mighty sponges help to cleanse the skin. They deep clean the pores releasing any dirt or trapped oil, as well as blackheads, all without drying the skin. They have antibacterial properties that help to prevent breakouts and due to their neutral pH level, they also help to retain balance in the skin. Konjac sponges turn dull and flaky skin into vibrant, glowing skin by gentle exfoliation and they work wonders at removing makeup and stubborn sunscreen.

How Do You Use A Konjac Sponge?

Your konjac sponge will arrive dry and will feel coarse and hard, so for your first initial use, you’ll want to soak it in warm water for 10 minutes. The konjac will expand into a squishy, pillow-like, porous sponge.

After that initial soak and use, you simply run the konjac sponge under water until it softens up. Gently squeeze some of the excess water out but not too much (you don’t want to completely ring it out) then, you can either apply cleanser directly to the sponge or go in for a session sans product.

I usually go without product when I use a konjac sponge during my AM skincare routine. If you do have makeup on and want to use the sponge to remove it, I recommend using a cleanser. If you’re makeup free, go ahead and skip the cleanser.

Massage the sponge around your face in circular motions. Don’t forget the neckthe most neglected part of our bodies. The unique shape of these sponges helps to get around small areas of the face like the nostrils and under eye area.

Using a konjac sponge 2-4 times a week, 1-2 times a day can help you achieve smooth, soft and radiant skin.

How Do You Care For Your Konjac Sponge?

After each use, you’ll want to rinse your sponge with warm water. This time around, squeeze and compress all of the water out. Leave your sponge in an open space so that it can dry thoroughly. These sponges dry really quick, helping to ensure that no bacteria builds up. There won’t be any funky mold growth either. Be cautious about leaving your konjac sponge in the shower though, the warm, moist and dark environment is a petri dish for bacteria and mold.

Konjac sponges are biodegradable and will need to be replaced every 6 – 8 weeks.

What Is The Difference Between All The Different Color Konjac Sponges?

The dark grey konjac sponges are made for oily skin and acne-prone skin.  These sponges contain activated charcoal, various minerals and natural antioxidant ingredients that help fight acne-causing bacterias.

The red and pink konjac sponges are made for sensitive skin, fatigued or mature skin. Their focus is to rebalance hydration in the skin. They contain natural French red clay and other naturally-occurring minerals.

The green konjac sponges are made for normal to combination skin. They contain French green clay, which can help detoxify the skin and absorb dirt.

The white konjac sponges are pure and help to alkalize the skin’s pH levels.

Gentle enough for a baby and gentle enough on your wallet are two solid reasons to make this beauty item an absolute must-have.
